Will Smith Plans To Reboot ‘The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air’ When ‘Hell Freezes Over’

Will Smith is selectively nostalgic.

He’ll happily perform “Miami” at a Suicide Squad block party and “Summertime” for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, but he won’t star in Independence Day: Resurgence or pretend Wild Wild West wasn’t garbage. Some things should stay in the 1990s, like The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which aired on NBC from 1990 to 1996. When asked whether he’d be interested in a Fresh Prince reboot, Smith said, without hesitation, “I don’t think ever, like pretty close to when hell freezes over… We’re going to leave that one alone.”

Last year, there were reports that Smith’s production company, Overbrook Entertainment, was in the “very early stages of developing a present-day Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot that puts a new spin on the fish-out-of-water tale while maintaining the spirit of the original series.” But all that hype turned out to be a whole lot of nothing. Just as well, too. Fresh Prince was a better show (with much better music) than Full House or Boy Meets World, but if Fuller House and Girl Meets World taught us anything, it’s that the world doesn’t need The Fresher Prince of Bel-Air, starring Jaden Smith. If you want to relive your childhood, watch the originals.

Might I recommend the saddest scene in Fresh Prince history?
