Here’s Every Stanley Kubrick Reference From ‘The Simpsons’ To Show Appreciation To A Master

Without a doubt, one of the most accomplished and revered filmmakers of all time would have to be Stanley Kubrick. Kubrick, best known for films like The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey and many, many more, has had an indelible impact on pop culture and society in general. His work has transcended traditional genre boundaries, with films varying in scope from small, intimate character studies to broad, sweeping science-fiction epics and even truly scary horror films. He made films that were both commercially viable while still being artistic, strange and thought-provoking.

Kubrick is often referenced and there are many (and I do mean many) nods to him throughout popular culture today, but The Simpsons has been paying homage to Kubrick for a great many years. Gizmodo points us to this rather incredible video that details all the references to Kubrick throughout the epic run of The Simpsons on FOX. In a way, it’s rather uncanny just how much The Simpsons has referenced Kubrick over the years.

There’s everything from Homer sitting in a vibrating chair while Lisa and Bart streak off, mirroring the flight from 2001: A Space Odyssey, to Homer and his buds dressed up like Alex and his droogs from A Clockwork Orange and a lot more. I’ve picked up quite a few of these references over the years, but some I had definitely missed, and this video is sort of a slap in the face of just how many there really have been.
