The Ratings Are In And ‘The Walking Dead’ Just Obliterated Everyone

The ratings for last night just came in and in case you were wondering if people still like The Walking Dead, the answer is yes, people still like The Walking Dead. A lot of people, in fact. A record-setting 17.3 million people total and about 11 million (an 8.7 rating) in the coveted 18-49 demographic, if we’re being specific. That’s a million more than last season’s record-setting premiere, 12 million more than the Season 1 premiere four years ago (an AMC rating high at the time), and more total viewers than anything this season other than the older-skewing NCIS and The Big Bang Theory. But about that rating in the demo…

This is easily the top “live plus same-day” demo rating for an entertainment telecast this season — well above the 5.4 earned by the season premiere of CBS’ “The Big Bang Theory.” And among all primetime programs, it ties at No. 1 with the Sept. 28 “Sunday Night Football” game on NBC between the New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys. Or, if we were to attempt to represent this visually with a notable moment from last night’s episode…
