Stop Whatever You’re Doing And Watch This Video Of Dogs Hanging Out Of Car Windows

By / 12.13.11

I’ve long believed that there are few things in life that capture more pure joy and wonderment than the look on a dog’s face when it’s hanging out of the window of a vehicle, sun beaming down on it, fresh air flowing into its lungs, as the world passes by before its eyes. It’s sort of humbling in a way — a quaint reminder that it’s often the simple things in life that pack the most bang for your buck if you can just remember to put down your smartphone, get off the internet and notice them. So, needless to say, this video of dogs hanging out of car windows set to music made me irrationally happy, as much or more than that video of dogs seeing sunlight and grass for the first time did. Like, no bullsh*t, my outlook on life at this moment in time, on this Tuesday in December, just did a 180. That’s powerful.

It looks as though Brooklyn-based video maker Keith Hopkin rigged a camera on the hood of cars to capture the looks on various dogs’ faces as they poked their heads out of the windows of vehicles. Hopkin then posted his work to Vimeo and set up a website — dogs-in-cars.com — to host it. So stop what you’re doing now and watch this. It’s five minutes very well spent.

And to Mr. Hopkin we say: You’ve created something uniquely beautiful. Well done, sir. Very well done.

(Btw, the music in the video is the work of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart)
