Watch This Autonomous Vehicle Suffer A Major Glitch And Plow Into A Group Of People

May 19, 2015 — a date which will live in infamy — mankind was suddenly and deliberately attacked by an autonomous car.

This was going to happen eventually. I think we all knew that. But the viciousness in which this occurred gives me pause because… machines are taking over the world.

It was nice knowing you.

An explanation of what occurred via Fusion:

Volvo spokesperson Johan Larsson explained that the video is mislabeled. He said the car is not attempting to self-park. “It seems they are trying to demonstrate pedestrian detection and auto-braking,” said Larsson by email. “Unfortunately, there were some issues in the way the test was conducted.”

The main issue, said Larsson, is that it appears that the people who bought this Volvo did not pay for the “Pedestrian detection functionality,” which is a feature that costs more money.

I don’t know about you, but that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. An autonomous vehicle only detects pedestrians if you pay extra money?

What is this tomfoolery?

Thankfully, the man in the video suffered only minor injuries.
