A Jokester Defaced A Netflix Headquarters Sign With ‘Netflix And Chill’ Graffiti

It seemed like every day we were reaching peak “Netflix and chill.” But actually the phrase jumped the shark three days ago, when an unidentified individual scrawled “and chill” under one of the Netflix corporate headquarter’s signs.

As with many viral stories, it seems like a Reddit user caught this first, posting a photo with the caption “the mother ship got hit last night.” Apparently, the sign was painted over within a few hours, and it looked like no one outside of Reddit would really notice.

Then, on Monday (yesterday), pictures of the defaced sign appeared on Twitter, one even with the graffiti artist present, as seen above. And now outlets like Complex and The Verge (which tells us that this isn’t Netflix HQ’s official sign), and of course Uproxx, are dutifully reblogging the story.

The once cutting edge phrase, which was basically an updated version of inviting someone you like over to “watch a movie” refuses to die, no matter how hard a corporation tries to get rid of the evidence. If you do a google search of “Netflix and chill,” you’ll see that the men of Craiglist have adopted the phrase, along with the men of Tinder.

And if you want to read more about the etymology of this important phrase, there’s even a “Netflix and chill” explainer. Long live “Netflix and chill.”
