The Derrick Rose Comeback Story has taken some interesting turns over the past few months, leaving Chicago fans and fans as a whole on a roller-coaster ride. Rose’s brother/manager added fuel to the flames on Thursday by essentially telling ESPN Chicago that his brother wouldn’t be risking his own health for a good-but-not-great team where the front office has failed to “put anything around” their prize point guard.
“What have you pieced together? Have you made any moves? Have you made any trades to get better? You know all roads to the championship lead through Miami. What pieces have you put together for the physical playoffs? Joakim Noah is a great player. Luol Deng is a great player. But you need more than that. You have to put together pieces to your main piece. The players can only do so much. It’s up to the organization to make them better. It’s frustrating to see my brother play his heart and soul out for the team and them not put anything around him.”
Rose’s words drew the ire of Charles Barkley, who responded with his two cents during last night’s Inside The NBA and, as is generally the case when he opens his mouth, the remarks were incredible.
“His brother need to shut the hell up, too, number one. Listen man, I’m gonna make one of the rules when I’m king of the world, which is never gonna happen. Hey man, we don’t care about your mom, your dad, your bother, your sisters, so stop tweetin’. As Herm Edwards would say, ‘don’t push sin.’ Nobody cares what you think. If a reporter calls you, he wants you to say something bad about somebody else so don’t be a damn idiot. Stop tweetin’ about coaches and players and stuff. Let the famous person be famous. You just shut the hell up.”
Lost in the hilarity is a pretty damn good point made about the media making people feel a bit too powerful. Even though he pointed out that he was only speaking for himself, Reggie Rose’s comment is going to create some sort of friction between Team Rose and The Bulls.
It probably won’t lead to anything, but as Sir Charles said, sometimes it’s best to just “shut the hell up.”
