A Cop Wound Up Giving Himself A Ticket For His Own Parking Violation

Some good news out of Florida for a change! Credit the integrity of the police chief of Groveland, Florida for this one, or credit social media for being an effective shaming/accountability tool.

According to Mashable, the Groveland Police Chief’s vehicle was blocking the sidewalk, which is normally a parking violation for us regular folk. A good samaritan named David Bires noticed this and posted photos of Mark Tennyson’s police vehicle to Facebook. You can see the post above. Needless to say a lot of people felt strongly about a police officer doing this. The post was shared 566 times, with comments like this:

“i will make myself get ran over and then say “his car was in the way so i couldnt walk on the sidewalk” ??lol”

And this story from one Josephine Valdez-Munoz:

I love in Groveland….and yes we have been ticketed for blocking the sidewalk at my house……very mad about it….bc it was given in the middle of the night when no one I walking the darn streets anyways… .but my husbands truck was blocking it by a foot…..still had to pay the damn ticket!!!

Chief Tennyson obviously noticed, and so the Groveland Police Department posted this photo of his ticket for the sidewalk block:

Pretty classy response. Though I’m pretty jealous that violations of that type only get a $45 fine.
