His birthday was last week, but so what? With an orchestral, almost euphoric beginning to The Birthday Tape, it sounds like Rockie Fresh is happy about making it another year. He still hasn’t allowed the big man and the rest Maybach Music Group to wash over his music and maintains his distinct, non-DJ Khaled-esque sound that the rest of his crew caters to.
Rockie stays in his trendy, fused lane of genres – err Electronic Highway to be exact – that he first gained notoriety for. If only more artists would prescribe to the philosophy of bite-size EPs versus bloated releases, listeners and artists would be in better shape.
