Meet Mert Alas. Mert is just a perfectly average 17-year-old living in Turkey who has recently found online fame thanks to none other than Kim Kardashian herself, due to the fact that the patron saint of the selfie can’t seem to tell the difference between a lowercase “L” and an uppercase “i”.

Although it’s not entirely her fault. See, Kardashian also has a friend named Mert Alas, a 45-year-old celebrity and fashion photographer from Turkey, who apparently — after realizing the Twitter handle @mertalas had already been taken by the teenager — went with @mertaIas, swapping an uppercase “i” for the “L,” there being the point of confusion. Would it really have been so bad to go with something like “@mertalas1?”

At any rate, whenever Kardashian tags her friend Mert Alas in photos on Twitter, she accidentally tags the teen, hence the newfound celebrity. Here are just a few photos in which Kim Kardashian has tagged a 17-year-old boy.

To be fair, Kardashian isn’t the only one who’s confused the two (even if she is the worst offender), because even Miley Cyrus fell for it.

Thankfully, being a normal teenager, 17-year-old Mert Alas is thrilled with the attention and the new followers, and has even taken to responding to Kim’s tweets.

And hey! He’s a good-looking kid! Maybe this sudden boost of fame will give him the bump he needs to kick-start his own modeling career. You can’t say Kim Kardashian never did anything nice for anyone.
