Yet Another Man Has Fatally Shot Himself While Taking A Selfie With A Gun

As former Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush proved on the campaign trail, guns and smartphones don’t always make for the best bosom buddies. Then again, Jeb! only posted a photo of his gubernatorial piece. He didn’t actually post a selfie with the gun, as a man from Mexico City tried to do before accidentally shooting himself in the head in 2014. Or, more recently, as a 43-year-old resident of Concrete, Washington (pop. 732) did on Sunday.

Per the Skagit Valley Herald, both the man and his girlfriend were posing with what they assumed was an unloaded handgun. I write “assumed,” of course, because the girlfriend later told the Skagit County Sheriff’s Office that they had been unloading, posing with and reloading the gun throughout the day. That is to say, these two legal adults would take said loaded gun, unload it for the purpose of taking selfies with it, reload it “just in case,” then decide to take more photos with it and repeat the process.

According to Skagit County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Patrol Chad Clark, who talked to the Herald about the incident, the deceased apparently left a single round in the chamber by accident before he and his girlfriend posed for another selfie. That’s when he fatally shot himself in the face.

Friends don’t let friends take selfies with guns. Or selfies, for that matter.
