Stronger Than Old Cheese, Tougher Than Dirt — Samurai Pizza Cats Get Action Figures

Ready for some second-string early-90s kids show nostalgia? For some reason, nearly 20-years after the show went off the air, a company in Japan is making a fancy Samurai Pizza Cats action figure. Yup. There it is, to the right. Yeah, I don’t know why either.

For those too young to remember (the fact that there could be adults reading this that weren’t even born yet when Samurai Pizza Cats first hit the air makes me feel far too f–king old) the show in question was basically an animated cross up between the Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. The show had a parodic lean to it, often breaking the fourth wall or taking thinly veiled jabs at other popular kids shows at the time, but that was probably just the doing of the guys tasked with translating the series into English. Apparently the translators never got any transcripts from Japan, so they basically just guessed at what was supposed to be happening then made up a bunch of goofy dialogue full of 80s movie references, and lines about how the Pizza Cats were much cooler than the Ninja Turtles.

But enough Samurai Pizza Cats history, here’s the main thing most people remember the show for — it’s catchy, completely random, sung by a Fred Schneider impersonator theme song…
