With Rick and Morty not returning to Adult Swim until sometime later in 2016, TBD, fans are dealing by consuming every little crumb Harmon and company throws our way, from the characters recreating a court transcript to a Rick and Morty Pokemon-style game and even a random cameo in the Justice League trailer that got people worked into a frenzy.
Now, in collaboration with Vulture, New York Magazine has released this live, improvised mini-episode called “Summer’s Future” which was recorded at San Diego Comic Con a few weeks back, featuring Dan Harmon, series creator (and voice of both Rick and Morty) Justin Roiland, Spencer Grammer who plays “Summer,” in addition to writer and producer Ryan Ridley.
The four-and-a-half minute clip is a sordid tale that involves Morty getting his legs amputated at the knees after suffering from septic shock, possibly from having feces injected into his knees, and Summer threatening the Dean of Admissions at Harvard (Ridley) to get into college.
Not to spoil the largely nonsensical plot too much, what’s that Roiland says at the end about it being the “beginning of the Rick and Morty movie?” Obviously the cast is just goofing around, but is it possible that he may have just teased a Rick and Morty movie in the works? With season three already being extended by four episodes, it would be the logical next step, since the traditional season format can already barely contain this insanely intricate and complex series.
