Drake Gave Nina Dobrev An Adorable ‘Degrassi’ Shout-Out At The AMAs

Sunday night at the AMAs, Drake accepted the Favorite Album – Rap/Hip-Hop award for Views. Twitter went a bit weak-kneed over his brief acceptance speech, and this had little to do with the award itself. Instead, folks dug how Drake paid tribute to his former (early aughts) Degrassi: The Next Generation co-star, Nina Dobrev, who introduced him alongside her best friend, Julianne Hough.

The occasion brought some excitement for fans of Degrassi, who noted that the two reunited onstage. Drake nabbed the moment, glanced over at Dobrev, and gave her a little shout-out: “Me and Nina were on Degrassi together. We’ve come a long way.” He then congratulated her on all her (Vampire Diaries?) success. Nina laughed along but seemed thrilled.

Perhaps this was a little unexpected for Dobrev — to be reminded of her older acting gigs — but it was a cool shoutout and much less awkward than a certain recent Drake award show moment. In other words, no one will be speculating about this tomorrow, unlike that kiss that resonated across the Internet. However, some viewers freaked out about reliving their middle school years. Here’s a quick sampling of enthused tweets.
