Anthony Davis went absolutely bonkers in front his home crowd in New Orleans on Sunday and shattered the All-Star Game scoring record by dropping a mind-boggling 52 points in the West’s 192-182 win over the East and seizing MVP honors. Wilt Chamberlain set the previous record in 1962 with 42 points.
Davis shot 26-of-39 from the field and added 10 rebounds and, not surprisingly, zero assists.

Refreshingly, Davis didn’t hesitate to admit that bringing home the MVP trophy was his goal going into the game.

Even though Russell Westbrook didn’t take home his third MVP award, which would’ve been an NBA record, he still had a performance for the ages with 41 points of his own, the highlight of which – most likely to his chagrin – was the dunk he threw down in the first half off a lob from his former teammate Kevin Durant.
Despite Davis’ win, the night really belonged to Westbrook and Durant. Their ongoing feud dominated the narrative going in, with so much awkwardness playing itself out in the locker-room and during warm-ups.
Nonetheless, the league’s brightest stars treated the fans to all sorts of highlights (and a few funny moments), with LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo leading the way with a handful of high-flying antics.
And Davis’ scoring extravaganza wasn’t the only record of the night.

While there’s not a lot of defense played in the All-Star Game, and DeMarcus Cousins trade rumors swirling, Davis gave the home crowd something to remember.
