Iconic rock vocalist Chris Cornell was laid to rest on Friday in Hollywood Forever Cemetery with a number of music legends in attendance to pay their respects. On Saturday, Guns N’ Roses paid tribute to Cornell with a song and held up their end of the bargain by doing a damn fine job with the tune.
Leg 5 of the decidedly massive Not In This Lifetime Tour kicked off this evening in Ireland at Slane Castle. (The castle plays host to roughly one enormo concert a year The last one held there was in 2015 when the Foo Fighters were the headline act.) During the set, the band made a point to honor the memory of their late rock colleague.
This one's for you Chris.

Guns N’ Roses busted out a cover of the mighty Soundgarden anthem “Black Hole Sun” and sure as sugar did the thing justice. The cover isn’t a simple facsimile, either. It’s GNR wrapping themselves up in the the woozy grunge fabric of a towering 1994 favorite. It’s a remarkable tribute and one with the appropriate colossal rock gravitas.
In addition to the fan-shot footage, a video bubbled up on YouTube this afternoon featuring “Black Hole Sun” in rehearsal form. We have that nestled below.
