Far too many rap relatives have had to say goodbye to young talents who’ve passed away recently, from Lil Peep’s mother and brother expressing grief over his death at 21, to Fredo Santana’s father, posting his own heartfelt remembrance as @Big_Shug300 on Instagram after the 27-year-old Chicagoan died Friday night after a seizure.
“THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE,” he wrote in the first post, simply a photograph of the late Fredo, who was best known for his mixtapes which first brought Chicago’s nascent drill scene to national prominence. Shug followed up with a series of photos, each featuring captions expressing his anguish and giving thanks for the outpouring of condolences and gratitude for Fredo’s music and cultural impact.
“I don’t know where to begin,” Shug noted under a childhood photo of his late son. “I’m a father of 6, not the best father in the world, but I have always been there.now Derrick was my second born named after my mentor my oldest brother, this is truly coming from my heart for I’m a lost for words.I wanna thank my wife for picking up of the floor cause I couldn’t stand,I wanna thank my family for showing what we are about,next I would like to thank my sons true friends in the industry for showing your support,& next I did not know the magnitude of souls & hearts my son had reached until today, I wanna thank all the fans, friends & family that I just couldn’t reach personally, thank y’all for everything.”
