Isaiah Thomas Will Miss The Remainder Of The Season After Undergoing Hip Surgery

Isaiah Thomas‘ season is officially over. The Los Angles Lakers‘ guard will miss the remainder of the regular season after surgery to repair his injured right hip.

Thomas didn’t play for the team which traded for him over the summer — the Cleveland Cavaliers — until late January. He lasted just 15 games with the Cavs before he was traded to Los Angeles at the deadline last month.

The Lakers announced on Wednesday that Thomas would go under the knife after his hip injury flared up earlier in the week. On Thursday, the team clarified that the procedure was successful and that Thomas’ season will come to an abrupt end.

The season-ending surgery makes an already uncertain future for the guard even more murky, as he never seemed to fully recover from the injury that he tried to play through for the Boston Celtics last postseason. Thomas elected to rest his hip instead of have surgery last summer, but things still weren’t right for him as the year continued and he finally reached the court.

No immediate timetable for recovery was given on Thursday, but it’s clear Thomas will be working to rehab himself back into game shape. Thomas now faces free agency coming off surgery, a very different result to the 2017-18 campaign than he hoped.
