Patriots Owner Robert Kraft Pleads Not Guilty To Soliciting Prostitution, Plans To Go To Trial

Last week, Robert Kraft was among the many charged with soliciting prostitution in a sting operation into sex trafficking involving a number of massage parlors and spas in Florida.

According to police documents, Kraft is on video entering the Orchids of Asia Day Spa in Jupiter, Florida twice in January over a 24-hour span, paying for oral sex and leaving — including a visit the morning of the AFC Championship game in Kansas City. Despite police seemingly having video evidence, Kraft and his lawyer are maintaining his innocence as he pled not guilty to the two misdemeanor charges filed against him on Thursday.

As CBS’ Amy Dash notes, it’s a fairly bold strategy given the relatively light punishment he likely would have received with a guilty plea to the pair of misdemeanors and it brings jail time into play as this goes to trial. According to Dash, Kraft’s lawyer plans on fighting the charges over the definition of the statute, and it will be interesting to see if that’s at all successful.

While it’s understandable Kraft wouldn’t want to admit guilt in this case, it does run the risk of video evidence being made public as part of the trial, along with the possibility of stiffer punishment.
