It’s Wesley Matthews’ ceaseless devotion spurred his rise from undrafted free agent to one of basketball’s best shooting guards more than anything else. Despite being sidelined for the season’s remainder after tearing his achilles tendon last week, it should be no surprise that the Portland Trail Blazers’ starter is still doing all he can to prepare for games.
Here’s Matthews during halftime of last night’s game between the Blazers and Houston Rockets, mere hours after surgery:
Jersey. Elbow sleeves. One official NBA sock. A serious scowl. This is the “Iron Man” the Pacific Northwest has come to know and love, and it’s certainly not hard to see why.
Expect Matthews, a free agent this summer, to be a fixture at Blazers games once he’s healthy enough to appear on the bench.
