DeAndre Jordan will be one of the hottest names in free agency this summer, with multiple teams likely to pursue the Clippers’ star center. One of those teams will be the Dallas Mavericks. According to ESPN, the Mavs may not have to work very hard in their pursuit, as Jordan is already interested in the team.
Another potential prize summer target for the Mavs: Clippers center DeAndre Jordan, who multiple sources say has made it clear through back channels that he will be extremely interested in coming to Dallas. Signing the 26-year-old Jordan, a dominant physical force who led the league in rebounding and field-goal percentage this season, would mean letting the 32-year-old Chandler leave again after another one-season stint with the Mavs.
Jordan would make a ton of sense with the Mavericks.
Tyson Chandler was rejuvenated this year, but he’s getting older, and the younger Jordan would be an ideal fit next to Dirk Nowitzki for his remaining years. Even after Dirk retires, the Mavericks would still have two solid foundational pieces in Jordan and Chandler Parsons. Neither is necessarily a star around which a whole team can be built, but they are, at least, starting players on a championship caliber team.
Mark Cuban has swung for the fences in free agency before, whiffing on both Deron Williams and Dwight Howard. With Jordan’s reported interest in the Mavericks, Cuban may be able to hit a home run this time around.
