We don’t have to rehash all of the drama that went down in Sacramento toward the end of last season and spilled over into the summer. It’s been very well-documented here and elsewhere. Kings coach George Karl isn’t interested in revisiting it, either. He just wants you to know that he’s swallowed his pride and acknowledged that his bull-headedness was partially to blame for the spat between he and DeMarcus Cousins that has been a huge distraction for the organization for months. Here’s what he had to say in a recent interview with CSNBAYAREA.COM:
“To be honest with you, I apologized to DeMarcus for making the trade comment that I’ve never coached a player that’s untradeable,” Karl told Christensen. “That was wrong for me to say, because you all (the media) took it and blew it up into crazy.”
“But it’s my responsibility to be smart enough to not say things like that,” Karl continued. “So I did apologize because I thought that was the only thing, maybe some other things, but really the only thing that got us separated was that comment that then everybody wrote the we’re going to trade [Cousins].”
After owner Vivek Ranadive and president Vlade Divac both took a hard-line stance that Cousins was emphatically not on the trading block, it’s tempting to venture that Karl was put on notice that he – not Cousins – was the expendable chip in this equation. But that’s all speculation. Still, it’s a little suspect that Karl has suddenly become such a fan of Boogie.
Regardless, it was nice to see the big fella back in action this week, screaming and cursing at the refs as if everything was back to normal.
