Things are already heating up for SXSW next spring. Over the years, SXSW has expanded into a tech conference, film festival, comedy showcase, and more. They also have a sports-centric convergence conference called SXsports, which is in its third year.
They announced today that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver will be the Opening Featured Speaker at the event. Here’s more from the SXSW press release:
“The NBA is already one of the most popular sports leagues in the world, and yet, since taking office, Commissioner Silver constantly welcomes new ideas to improve the game and harness the global sports audience,” said Rebecca Feferman, Head of SXsports. “No topic is untouchable, and his willingness to break free of the status quo is something all our SXsports attendees can learn from and aspire to within their own experiences.”
Even as Deputy Commissioner of the NBA prior to David Stern’s retirement, Silver was instrumental in brokering television contracts in hundreds of markets across the globe, making the NBA the fastest growing of all professional sports. Silver has also been hailed as a model leader in the sports world after his swift and decisive handling of the Donald Sterling fiasco just a few months into his tenure as commissioner.
The conference is scheduled for Friday, March 11 through Sunday, March 13 at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin, Texas.
