The Minnesota Star Tribune reports that Andrew Wiggins will be named the NBA’s Rookie of the Year. The first overall selection in the 2014 NBA Draft will be the first Timberwolves player to ever receive the honor.
In what should come as no surprise to anyone who followed the 2014-15 NBA season, Andrew Wiggins will became the first Timberwolves player to be named the league’s Rookie of the Year, according to a league source.
Wiggins led all rookies with 16.8 points per game, a full five points higher than the player below him. Wiggins also led all rookies in minutes played, field goals made and free throws made. Philadelphia 76ers rookie Nerlens Noel and Orlando Magic rookie Elfrid Payton were the other two players being considered for the award.
The Timberwolves acquired Wiggins before the season in a trade for Kevin Love and the 20-year old star has exceeded expectations. The future looks bright for young Andrew Wiggins.
