The last thing the New Orleans Pelicans need is another injury, especially to their franchise cornerstone. But that appeared to be the case on Tuesday night when Anthony Davis was forced to leave the game early in the first quarter after injuring his shoulder while setting a screen. Davis was taken to the locker room to be evaluated where team doctors determined that he would not, in fact, return tonight to play against the Denver Nuggets, per the team’s website:
For the second straight Tuesday, the Pelicans will try to win a game in which Anthony Davis sustained a game-ending injury in the first half. Davis will sit out the remainder of Tuesday’s game vs. Denver with a left shoulder injury. Davis missed the second half of the Nov. 17 home game against Dallas, but the Pelicans prevailed 120-105.
The nature and severity of the injury, however, were not disclosed. The Pelicans have been cursed with the injury bug lately to several of their key players. They went into Tuesday night’s home game without Tyreke Evans, Omer Asik, Norris Cole, Quincy Pondexter and Kendrick Perkins, who are battling a variety of ailments. Those setbacks have played a significant role in New Orleans’ disappointing 1-9 start to the season.
The Pelicans are clinging to a 53-51 lead over the Nuggets at the half.
