The Mavericks’ Twitter Account Threw Some Serious Shade At Rajon Rondo

Last year, desperate for a point guard that could lead them deep into the playoffs, the Dallas Mavericks made a risky gambit and traded for Rajon Rondo. There were worries, to be sure; Rondo was a non-shooter, which would suffocate the Mavericks’ spacing, and it had also been at least a year since Rondo had been in peak form. Yet the Mavericks had enough belief in Rondo, and enough belief in their coach Rick Carlisle, that the pairing would work.

It didn’t. Not by a long shot. In fact, it was an outright disaster. Rondo flamed out in Dallas, never clicking with the roster or Carlisle. The “Playoff Rondo” everyone expected to emerge instead remained dormant. And the Mavericks, or at least their social media team, are still a little salty about it.

Not exactly the best look for whomever is running the Mavericks’ Twitter account. The tweet was deleted fairly quickly, but since this is the Internet, the evidence still very much exists.

On the other hand, though, it’s true that Dwight Powell has been a good pick-up for the Mavericks. He’s provided valuable minutes as a backup center, showing good defensive instincts and above-average athleticism. Having Powell be the best thing to come of that trade isn’t exactly what the Mavericks had in mind, but hey, sometimes you have to take what you can get.
