Damian Lillard signed a five-year contract with the Portland Trail Blazers last summer. It will pay him a shade under $140 million and unlike deals for other star players, it does not have an opt-out clause.
So during this summer of Kevin Durant going to the Golden State Warriors to create a super team and Dwight Howard going home to play for the Atlanta Hawks, it seems like the last guy you’d think to ask about going home is Lillard, who is from Oakland.
But this is Twitter, so of course someone is asking Lillard about it. And he gave a short, emphatic response.

What else would he say? “Despite my being locked into Portland for four years and having zero ability to see that far into the future, yes, I shall be returning to Oakland to play for the Warriors when my contract expires.” That was never going to happen, mostly because that’s way too long for a tweet.

I don’t know why pro athletes are on Twitter or how they don’t go off on people like this. I bet Lillard typed and deleted like 10 different responses before settling on “welp” so he wouldn’t get fined by his team for calling these people jealous losers with no insight into how he feels about playing in Portland.
However, if Portland wins it all with Lillard, @tjr4536’s mentions will be the nightmare he deserves on that day.
