Al Jefferson thought he had an easy bucket in the first quarter of Charlotte’s game against New Orleans last night. Against anyone else on the planet he might have. But the Pelicans have Anthony Davis, and that was enough to stymie what should have been the easiest bucket of Jefferson’s night.
Big Al sealed Omer Asik beautifully on his left hip before the perfect Kemba Walker entry pass led Jefferson to the hoop for one of his easy little shot-put buckets — the kind that make him one of the most dangerous low-post men in the league right now. Then The Brow rotated over a little late, and Jefferson lofted his shot a little higher. It wasn’t high enough for Ant’s freakish wingspan, jumping ability and timing:
Because he was a little late to rorate over, Davis tipped Jefferson’s shot when it reached the top of its arc towards the hoop! That is freakin’ insane. Big Al is 6-10 and Ant just comes across from the weak-side and snuffs out any thoughts of a quick bucket.
Davis led the Pellies to the win over a Hornets team stuck in a funk (winless in their last three contests), 100-91, and Ant added to the lore that’s quickly turning him into not just a borderline MVP candidate, but a real one.
Could any other player in the league do this?
