The water crisis in Flint, Michigan has brought out the best in a lot of people. Many have donated bottled water to the city. Jimmy Fallon, Big Sean and Cher are among those who have pledged donations.
Gilbert Arenas, however, decided to give something else.
The 34-year-old former Shanghai Sharks guard posted images to his since-deleted Instagram account mocking the situation in Flint. Seeing a situation ripe with comic potential, Arenas uploaded a picture of bottles of water with an English-like substance indicating the women of Flint should wash their private areas with clean water, for the many months of washing with Flint water has made them gross, and Arenas is not interested in a sexual liaison unless you wash that area beforehand with bottled water.
Classic comedy.
Like any true comedian, Arenas stayed committed to the bit when people were upset. Sure, you might say a joke about keeping your genitals clean for sex with Gil is a bad, one-note joke that should have been abandoned before it was executed, but that’s why you’re you and not accomplished satirical laureate Gilbert Arenas.
You might be thinking that the use of “too” instead of “to” reveals a lack of intelligence on the part of Arenas, but what the master humorist is doing by spelling two-letter words incorrectly is revealing how society’s norms reflect the Flint crisis in the form of … okay, Arenas is an idiot. There’s no justifying any of this.
