NBA Silly Season is upon us, and this year things seem to be even sillier than usual.
There was a ridiculous amount of money (unofficially) handed out during Day One of the league’s free agency window, and some unexpected players were made very rich. Yeah, that’s right, I’m looking at you, Timofey Mozgov.
It seems that even some of the NBA’s team owners were surprised at how much coin was being passed around on the open market. Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera was among them, as indicated by this simple (but effective) GIF he tweeted on Friday.

There may be some irony here, though, as Pera’s Grizz handed out the most lucrative contract in the history of the league to…Mike Conley? Yeah, that Mike Conley. Memphis also came to an agreement with Chandler Parsons on a max contract.

With that in mind, maybe Pera’s GIF tweet isn’t about the league as a whole, but just a representation of how his own team is approaching this year’s free agency? Either way, both seem pretty dang accurate.
Let’s just hope, for Pera’s sake, that he doesn’t end up feeling like all that money was just thrown out the window.
