The big question that has popped up in recent days in Cleveland, other than trying to figure out if anyone is on the trade block, is whether there is something up between Isaiah Thomas and Kevin Love. It seems like there might be after a team meeting where Thomas called Love out, and on Friday night, Love seemed to make fun of Thomas during a game.
It has gotten to the point that people were, understandably, curious about what is going on between the two. This led to someone asking Thomas about his relationship with Love during a media availability on Saturday afternoon, and in the eyes of the dynamic point guard, this is all chatter that only exists outside of the locker room.
“To be real, I didn’t call him out,” Thomas said, according to Cleveland.com. “I asked him why wasn’t he at the game during the game supporting his teammates. And then after the game, I didn’t ask him because he wasn’t there. So I was seeing where he was. So I didn’t call him out any. So those reports that whoever is saying that, there’s no bad blood between me and him. We go back to fifth and sixth grade. I asked him a question where he was and it was never clarified. And that’s all it was.”
Thomas also felt the need to clear the air about what actually went down during the now-controversial meeting after the team allowed 148 points to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
“We just didn’t know where he was, at the end of the day. And to be real, we didn’t know where he was. We didn’t know why he wasn’t on the bench supporting his teammates and why he wasn’t in the locker room after the game. And then he missed the next practice, which it still wasn’t addressed. So we wanted to address it when we seen him or when we came together and everybody was there. And that’s what it was. It was no bigger than that. Whoever reported that it was and we was bashing Kevin Love, there was nothing to bash him about, we just wanted to know where he was and why he didn’t play.”
It is entirely possible that there is legitimate beef here and Thomas is trying to calm things down, although he seems sincere about things being blown out of proportion. You’d assume we’ll know how legitimate this is eventually, but for now, Thomas says all is well in Cleveland.
