Tragedy struck Celtics star Isaiah Thomas‘ family on Saturday morning, when his younger sister, Chyna, passed away in a one-car accident in Washington. She was 22.
According to The News Tribune, Thomas’s 1998 Toyota Camry hit a metal post at approximately 5 a.m while driving southbound on I-5. Witnesses said that the car was being driven normally, but it started drifting left and then drove “about 50 feet partially off the roadway” until it hit a Jersey barrier and got propelled head-on into the sign post. Police officers reported that Thomas did not have her seatbelt on at the time of the accident. A picture of the crash can be seen here.
The Celtics’ first game of the 2017 NBA Playoffs will tip off at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, while their second game will take place on Tuesday. There is no word on whether Thomas will play in the games or if he will head home to be with his family.
