The evidence — anecdotal as it is — seems rather conclusive: Jeremy Lin is not only the recipient of a disproportionate number of hard fouls, those fouls either result in highly-questionable common-foul calls, or worse, egregious no-calls. But because the internet exists and because there are people out there who apparently have the time to devote to obscure and largely inconsequential causes like this, some hero fan put together the above compilation of all the times Lin got blatantly clobbered by a defender and didn’t get the benefit of flagrant-foul call.
It’s caused more than a few people to take notice. Toward the end of the video, there’s a screen-cap of a series of tweets from former director of NBA officials Ronnie Nunn, who seems just as confused as everybody else as to why Lin doesn’t get more calls. Lin himself even weighed in on the subject in a recent video:
Naturally, the elephant in the room here is the question of whether any of this has to do with Lin’s Asian heritage and whether he’s being discriminated against because of it. That’s also the underlying thread running through his ongoing inability on road games to make it past arena security without being stopped and asked for his I.D. But that’s some pretty dicey territory that we’d prefer to avoid altogether. Instead, let’s just enjoy highlights from his monster game against the Celtics on Monday night.
