.@JoelEmbiid‘s rookie year with the @Sixers is going to be legendary.
At least, that’s what he’s been telling us: pic.twitter.com/4uB4kpBL91— The Ringer (@ringer) September 14, 2016
All summer long, Joel Embiid has been teasing us with one-on-none workout videos on Instagram. Embiid, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 draft, missed his entire first two seasons with the Sixers due to recurring foot injuries, but he’s expected to be ready to go for training camp and finally make his NBA debut this season. And he’s been making sure everyone knows it, posting videos for the past several months of himself dunking or doing strength drills with Sixers trainers, which have only increased the hype around the big man who was once the most highly touted prospect in the draft.
The folks at The Ringer gave Embiid’s workout videos the appropriate tribute, creating a super-dramatic mockumentary that featured Bill Simmons, Shea Serrano and other Ringer staffers speaking rhapsodically about the power of Embiid’s workout videos against no defenders. Everyone thought it was pretty funny, including Embiid himself, who tweeted the video out.
This is AMAZING.. So freaking hilarious 😂😂😂😂😂😭😭😭😭 https://t.co/RrJ21sNPoT

Beyond this video, Embiid is a big-time supporter of The Ringer — he tweeted Kevin O’Connor’s recent piece on himself at his former GM, Sam Hinkie, after Hinkie made his Twitter debut on Wednesday and asked for reading recommendations.

Embiid’s sense of humor is, at this point, just as much a part of his legend as his on-court skill set, but we don’t yet know how he’s going to fare against actual NBA competition in a game.
