Players, not referees, are meant to be the stars of the game. Some referees just can’t help themselves, unfortunately. Case in point: Joey Crawford.
It’s not uncommon for a player to argue with a ref about a call – if anything, it’s to be expected. Most refs will listen, nod along, then walk away, as if nothing happened. But not good ol’ Joey. After Timofey Mozgov argues with Crawford about a foul, Joey fires back, telling Mozgov to “shut up.” There are plenty of other, better ways to handle this sort of confrontation (such as the normal, aforementioned strategy). Crawford, however, takes the approach that inserts himself into the game as much as possible.
