Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James apparently attended some sort of Roaring-20s-themed costume party over the weekend, complete with flapper girls and three-piece suits traditionally worn by Tommy-Gun-wielding wiseguys. LeBron’s alter ego, James “Plaid” Jackson, is a curious nom de guerre given that there is, in fact, no visible plaid in any of these photos (maybe James “Paisley” Jackson would’ve been a better choice, considering that jaunty tie). He also sports one other conspicuous difference from his real-world persona: a lustrous quaff of wavy, flowing locks.
The King’s rapidly decaying hairline has been an easy enough target over the years, not to mention the wellspring of a whole cottage industry of Internet memes of wildly varying degrees of quality. LeBron is well aware of all this, of course, and the piece de resistance of this weekend’s outfit, i.e. that luxurious wig, is just the latest indication that he’s – ahem – grown a sense of humor about it.
The only thing that could possibly make this any better is if LeBron boldly decides to ditch his signature headband once and for all and instead rock that wig Rick-Barry-style over the course of the entire season. I can almost guarantee he seriously considered it after one too many of whatever those tasty-looking Prohibition-era cocktails were they were sipping on out of those non-discreet Ball jars. We can always dare to dream.
