Despite nearly posting a triple double, LeBron James was generally disappointed with his overall performance in the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Game 1 loss to the Chicago Bulls Monday. Those are some pretty lofty standards to live up to, and from the opening tip, LeBron and co. seemed determined not to duplicate that lackadaisical effort in Game 2 tonight. He also brought back the headband, which clearly wields some sort of mystical, Samson-like powers.
The Cavs pounced on the Bulls early and ended the first quarter with a 38-18 lead. LeBron stayed aggressive in the second quarter, in particular on this drive and slam over Jimmy Butler for two of his game-high 33 points. He also added eight rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block en route to a series-tying 106-91 win.
Last week, we examined how much less effective Derrick Rose is when he has less than two days off between games, and that trend continued Wednesday as he struggled mightily from the floor, converting just six of his 22 shot attempts. Butler also had a dreadful shooting night. Despite putting up 18 points, he was an inefficient 5-for-14 from the field. Pau Gasol, who dissected the the Cav’s defense with his pick-and-pop game Monday, was likewise held to an inconsequential 11 points. The trio of Rose, Butler, and Gasol all scored at least 20 points in Game 1.
The series now shifts to Chicago for Game 3 Friday at 8 PM ET on ESPN.
