What do you do if you’re an amateur golfer who hates playing behind slow groups that aren’t allowing you to play through? If you’re a billionaire like Michael Jordan, you simply avoid all that and build your own course.
“According to several sources with ties to Jordan, the basketball legend is exploring the possibility of building his own private club in Florida, an exclusive retreat with a tiny membership hand-picked by His Airness himself.”
Jordan is currently a member of Jack Nicklaus’ The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, FL. In 2010, he purchased a mansion that sits along the course for a reported $12.4 million. But since that time, he’s apparently become increasingly annoyed by the slow paces of play by other members of the club, and according to a source has secured the option on a plot of land nearby that some believe he’s using to build his own course.
Fox Sports golf analyst Brad Faxon has reviewed the land and says developing it for golf would take a lot of work, but that it also has potential. One thing is certain: MJ certainly has the financial means to do it. All he really needs now is for someone to doubt him publicly so he can prove them wrong.
