Hawks forward Mike Scott, he of the multiple emoji tattoos and instant offense off the bench, is allegedly facing felony drug charges following an arrest early Thursday morning, reports MyFoxAtlanta.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office said Scott was in a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe that fled a traffic stop on Interstate 85 around 9 a.m. Thursday. Deputies said they were attempting to pull the car over for following too close to another vehicle. Speeds reached up to 98 mph before eventually stopping two miles down the road, according to deputies.
The report says Scott — who played a key role off the bench as the Hawks’ sharp-shooting stretch four — admitted to having drugs in the car. Police found both marijuana and MDMA in the vehicle.
The Atlanta Hawks have issued a statement on the arrest, though it is of the usual “no comment” variety.
“We are aware of the situation involving Mike Scott this morning. Out of respect for the legal process, we will not have any additional comments at this time,” Hawks Head Coach Mike Budenholzer said in a statement in response to the arrest.
Scott fell out of the rotation during the playoffs after suffering a broken toe that forced him to miss 12 of Atlanta’s final 18 regular-season games. But he became a fan favorite and a surprising contributor for the 62-win Hawks squad before the injury limited his production in the postseason.
