Sure, it’s the middle of the NBA Playoffs, but the good folks at Uni Watch are already looking ahead to next season. Recently, they leaked designs for a massive Clippers re-branding, and they’ve now dropped another huge exclusive: 2015’s Christmas Day uniforms for every NBA team.
Every team, you say? Yes, since the NBA doesn’t actually know who will be playing on basketball’s response to the NFL’s takeover of Thanksgiving as a sports holiday. That’s why they designed uniforms for every team as they weigh their options. As Uni Watch’s Paul Lukas says, it’s unlikely that all of them will be produced. But for now, let’s take a look some of them and dream.
The Cavs and Bulls design are up top, and they look sweet and classic. Every team’s uniform is some variation of those… the script design, the cream color instead of white, the off-center numbers. I would imagine that they will actually have the players’ last names on the back instead of team names, considering the old-fashioned look. Taken all at once, they all look pretty much the same. My favorite, however, is the Portland Trail Blazers design.
The Blazers keep their cool diagonal slash across the midriff, which makes them stand out among all the solid color. The Warriors actually downgrade a little, since they keep their awesome blue but lose their even-more-awesome gold logo. The Magic benefit from the new look, as well:
They keep their sweet pinstripes, and I think the cream color suits their blue nicely. The Lakers unis could go either way; it’s a good look, but it’s certainly understated compared to their signature yellow, and the cream dampens the purple from the standard look.
Overall, though, it’s a huge improvement from the sleeved, pajama-style nonsense of last year. If it’s any indication of the direction of league style, I’m on board for a more retro feel.
