The Lakers-Blazers preseason game Monday night ended in dramatic fashion, but to counteract the bizarre bit of sky-walking by Ryan Kelly, the basketball Gods decided to treat us to some classic Nick Young.
That’s not to besmirch the self-proclaimed Swaggy P, but he’s the self-proclaimed Swaggy P.
In a little more thanĀ 18 minutes of action Monday night, Young took 14 shots, 10 from beyond the arc. He made four of them, three of those from deep. Despite playing less than half the game, he attempted more shots than anyone else on his team, and some were right out of the Swaggy P handbook.
The one at the top of this post wasn’t really his fault, though. He caught the pass with the shot clock winding down. Sure, he fumbled the ball and awkwardly arced it to the rim, drawing nothing but air, but that was his team’s fault. If anything, the Swaggy part of Young’s moniker makes him uniquely suited for last-ditch efforts at a bucket as the shot clock ticks closer to zero.
But his first 3-point attempt had an equally miserable result.

Young did have four rebounds on the night, but didn’t dole out a single assist. He’s a shooter, why would he? When he did connect on a three over the outstretched arms of Meyers Leonard in the second half, he spent time running back up the court to complain that he was fouled on the shot and should get a chance at a four-point play.

Never change, Swaggy P.
