Notre Dame will advance in the NCAA Tournament after surviving an all-out war with Stephen F. Austin. The Fighting Irish and the Lumberjacks threw haymakers all game, but in the end, Notre Dame came out on top due to this tip-in by a freshman who averages 2.5 points per game.
Rex Pflueger, who came into the game as a defensive sub and happened to be on the court for Notre Dame’s final possession, somehow managed to get himself in a position during a scrum underneath his hoop to tap the ball in to give the Fighting Irish a 76-75 win. Odds are Pflueger will be in college for a few more years, but it’s hard to imagine that he’ll ever score a bigger basket than this one during his career in South Bend.
With the win, Notre Dame will advance to play either Wisconsin or Xavier in the Sweet 16.
