It seems when you get outscored by enough in a basketball game, you won’t just lose games. You’ll also shed some of that extra poundage.
When 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie went on The Lowe Post, Zach Lowe’s podcast at ESPN, he dropped an interesting piece of information.
From Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer:
“I lost twenty pounds in November to January,” he told Lowe.
Hinkie was asked about his comment in the podcast before the Sixers defeated the New Orleans Pelicans, 107-93, on Tuesday night.
“It was just a hard season to start the year,” Hinkie said. “Wasn’t it for you?”
The 76ers began the year 0-18 before winning their first game and were 1-30 by Dec. 23. Even by the Sixers’ recent standards, that’s not … uhhh … it’s not the best.
Hopefully, Hinkie has gained some weight back with the recent wins. Philly just beat the Pelicans on Tuesday to earn its 10th victory of the year, hardly a gluttonous number, but just barely good enough to avoid the lowest win total in NBA history, which still belongs to the 1973 Sixers who went 9-73.
There is one lesson we can take away from this, though: When you’re on a diet — whether it’s paleo, atkins or whatever else — make sure to trust the process.
