Uniform redesigns are a common occurence in sports all over the world. A new look means fans need to buy new jerseys to keep up with what they see on the court. They can range from subtle, like the Hawks putting “Atlanta” on their home uniforms instead of the word Hawks, or they can be complete overhauls — remember what Stephen Curry looked like in his rookie year?
Well, it appears the Clippers could be going with the overhaul strategy, if leaked images published by Uni Watch are to be believed. Gone are the lightly italicized small caps, the basketball with the speed lines. In their place is a blocky letter C enveloping blocky letters L and A. Oh, and also black? Or at least charcoal grey? And the basketball is no longer in motion. It is a ball at rest.
The alternate design is closer to the Clippers’ alternate red uniforms now, but with the same blocky letters and no basketball at all.
Personally, I prefer the old design, if only because I do love speed lines. But the new one’s not bad, and at least it isn’t just a different shade of orange.
