Comedian Hannibal Buress was the surprise actor chosen to play Michael Jordan in the Toronto International Film Festival’s live reading of Space Jam, the 1996 classic that featured Jordan, Bill Murray and every kid’s favorite Looney Tunes characters.
Joining Buress were Vine star Jasmeet Singh, comedian Mark Little, NBA TV reporter Kristen Ledlow and a whole bunch of other actors. But the best part was the live artists on hand to lend some animation to the event. After all, what would Space Jam be without the illustrations?

The live read was in honor of the film’s 20th anniversary and the city of Toronto’s importance in the world of film, thanks to the annual film festival. There are rumors abound of a sequel coming down the line but, for original Space Jam fans, this weekend the live reading will have to do.
Should the Monstars return to threaten Earth in a sequel, the current debate about who would play Jordan is heated. Many think LeBron James is a shoe-in, and from what we’ve seen of him in movies so far, the guy can act. But should the fate of the world come down to basketball again, isn’t the current best-hope-of-Earth Steph Curry?
