Bronson Koenig’s game-winning three for Wisconsin over Xavier on Sunday night wasn’t the most ridiculous shot of the first weekend of the NCAA tournament, but it certainly had drama. The buzzer beater sent Wisconsin to the Sweet 16 for the second-straight year and capped off one of the most incredible first two rounds of March Madness that anyone can remember.
I loathe prisoners of the moment, but in the context of drama this is the greatest first weekend the NCAA Tournament has ever produced…

Because these types of shots are always best revisited the next day and from multiple angles, the above video shows Koenig’s shot from the stands courtesy of the father of Syracuse guard Christian White.
Watching the whole thing over again, there’s an extra level of appreciation for Koenig’s shot. Again, there are two seconds on the clock — enough time to get a couple of dribbles and a decent look, but little else. Koenig hit the shot while fading away from the corner of the court, so any type of help from the glass was out of the question (unless you’re Steph Curry). On that note, Koenig said after the game he was channeling his “inner Steph Curry, and it worked.”
And to think it all resulted in a wave of Bill Murray memes.
