Hollywood is generally thought to be a place that receives an annual influx of all the best looking people from their small towns, come to LA to make their fortune. Which is the reason I have this theory that if you think of a prominent actor who’s, as Fargo would put it, “sorta weird looking,” that actor is probably super goddamned talented. Otherwise they’d never have booked anything. Okay, it’s not exactly a complicated theory, but think about John C. Reilly, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Steve Buscemi, William H. Macy… name me one person for whom it isn’t true. Or better yet, just go with me on this one.
This latest video from Oliver Noble and Ben Craw over at Huffington Post celebrates the career of William H. Macy, who has had a fine career playing a collection of oddballs, weirdos, and sad sacks. It hurts my soul a little bit to see him so sad and mistreated in every scene, but it’s important to remember that playing it so well is what’s given him such a long career. Not to mention a long, happy marriage to Felicity Huffman, with whom Macy makes up half the storied power couple Filliam H. Muffman.
So here’s to you, Jerry Lundegaard, you beautiful bug-eyed bastard.
