Despite being one of the many idiots who genuinely loves every second of every Marvel film, even including Thor: The Dark World, which had entirely too much Kat Dennings, I couldn’t help but wonder where the hell Hawkeye was during all of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. What on Earth was so important that Clint Barton couldn’t deadhead on a SHIELD jet and show up to help Cap and especially the Black Widow save Nick Fury and the good guys from the HYDRA agents that had been festering within the world’s last line of organizational defense? The answer on the production side is that there were too many other characters already involved, so they didn’t want Hawkeye to get “a crappy part,” while the story angle is that everything unfolded so quickly that he didn’t have enough time to get out of the mission that he was already on.
If those aren’t good enough reasons for you, and you’re still upset that Hawkeye wasn’t there to do his damn job, it appears that the marksman will be making up for lost time with a role in Captain America 3. Or maybe Jeremy Renner just feels like teasing us all.
“There are rumblings of Captain America 3. I don’t know what’s going to happen there. I’ve got to find the time, man (laughs). I’m trying to stay home and I can’t.” (Via Collider)
Captain America 3 production will begin next year, as it is set for that May 6, 2016 release that already caused DC and Warner Bros. to flinch first and move Batman Vs. Superman. Whether or not Hawkeye will actually be in it won’t be known until set photos start showing up – or, you know, someone just comes out and says Renner’s going to be in it – but at least we know that Hawkeye got some fancy new duds for Avengers: Age of Ultron. It’s not all fifth place for Hawkeye.
