In the simplest of press releases and with very little excitement, Ubisoft and Obsidian Entertainment announced a bit of news today that so many of us have been waiting on for more than a year – South Park: The Stick of Truth has gone gold. What the hell does that even mean to ordinary video game noobs like you and, more importantly, me? It means that after so many delays and a growing public concern that this damn game was never going to see the light of day, The Stick of Truth is ready to be shipped to retailers, and it can be said, with complete confidence, that the long-awaited game will finally, actually be released on March 6 for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.
The game was actually supposed to be released in March of 2013, but it was one of the victims of THQ’s bankruptcy and was eventually picked up by Ubisoft during last year’s auction. Ubisoft’s officials assured everyone that changes needed to be made to the game in order to bring it up to the level of quality that we were all expecting from it, and as we’ve seen from the Stick of Truth trailer and gameplay video, it looks like they’ve done an awesome job.
So barring a figurative disaster and some unforeseen design or software problems, we can all start loading up on Hot Pockets and bedpans, because in just three weeks, we are finally going to team up with Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman to save the good-but-really-stupid people of South Park.
