Last week Bryan Singer announced Peter Dinklage will play an unnamed character in X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Variety later reported Dinklage is playing “the main antagonist”. Now we have an update on who Peter Dinklage will be playing, as well as news about an unusual cameo promised by Singer.
MTV reports that Peter Dinklage might be playing Bolivar Trask, a character played by the decidedly un-Dinklage-like Bill Duke in X-Men 3. Trask invented mutant-hunting robot Sentinels, which are present in the storyline of the Days of Future Past comics. The character is an anthropologist and inventor who later regretted his mutant-hunting ways. In one story line, his kids are mutants. In two different story lines, (spoiler alert) he either kills himself out of regret or he gives his life to save the X-Men. That’s why Variety calling Peter Dinklage’s character an antagonist rather than a villain may be an important distinction.
We’ve also learned, via a long interview with Bryan Singer, that Richard Nixon is a character in X-Men: Days of Future Past. Singer tells Collider, “Part of it takes place in the 1970s. And Richard Nixon’s in it, that’ll be an interesting casting choice… There’ll also be some more science-fiction-type aspects to the story and, without giving it away, some technology that we haven’t seen yet in the X-Men universe.”
Any chance we could have Dinklage slap around Nixon, Joffrey-style?
